Backup Power for Your Property
Pamlico Electric & Solar installs Kohler and Generac standby generators, along with inlet connections and compatible interlocks for portable generators, in Wilmington and across Eastern North Carolina.
Whether you want automatic standby power or a connection for a portable generator, we’ll help you understand what each option can power, how it operates, and what installation involves.

Choose How You Want to Back Up Your Home
A standby generator starts automatically during an outage and supplies power through an automatic transfer switch. We size the system around your priorities, whether that means essential appliances or broader coverage throughout your home.
A portable generator connection offers a manually operated alternative. We install an inlet and compatible interlock or transfer equipment, then explain the connection process and which loads your setup can support.
The right choice depends on what you want to power, your budget, and whether you want automatic operation.
Kohler & Generac Standby Generators
We install Kohler and Generac standby generators, with options sized for different properties and backup needs. We help you compare equipment, fuel requirements, maintenance, and installation cost.
Your proposal identifies the generator, transfer equipment, and work included. We also explain which appliances can run together and whether load management is needed for larger equipment, such as heating and cooling systems.
Choose Your Kohler Color
Complement your home with a choice of 10 solid enclosure colors, or blend into your surroundings with a Mossy Oak camouflage finish. These options are offered on select Kohler standby generators. We’ll confirm available colors, patterns, and any additional cost for the model in your quote.

From Planning to Installation
We review your electrical loads, fuel supply, and available space before recommending a generator. Placement, wiring routes, and fuel connections all affect the installation plan and price.
Your written quote explains the equipment, site work, permits, and connections included, along with any allowances or separately priced work.
Once installation is complete, we test the system and walk you through its operation, routine maintenance needs, and who to contact for service.
Generators, Solar & Battery Backup
If you already have solar or battery storage, we review how a generator could work with your existing equipment. The design needs to coordinate these power sources during an outage and when utility power returns.
Some battery systems support generator charging; others do not. We check equipment compatibility before recommending a setup and explain how it will operate, what it can power, and any limitations.
What to Know Before You Choose
What Can It Power?
We size the generator around the appliances you want to use together, including the starting demands of larger equipment. Some systems use load management to keep demand within the generator’s capacity.
What Fuel Does It Need?
Standby generators typically run on natural gas or propane. We review your available supply and identify any fuel-system work needed for the proposed installation.
Will It Start Automatically?
A standby system with an automatic transfer switch starts during an outage after a brief interruption. Portable generator connections require manual setup and operation.
What Maintenance Is Required?
Maintenance depends on the model, operating hours, and manufacturer’s schedule. We explain the service requirements and can quote routine maintenance for your system.
Portable Generator Connections
Already own a portable generator? We install inlet connections with compatible interlocks or transfer equipment so you can supply selected household circuits during an outage.
We review your generator’s output, your electrical panel, and what you want to power before recommending the connection. We explain manual operation and the limits of the setup.
Portable-generator inlet and compatible interlock installation: starting at $950.
The portable generator is not included. This fixed-price service starting price includes travel within one hour of our Wilmington office. Any additional travel is included in your quote before booking.
Standby Generator Pricing
Standby generator installation: $11,500–$17,000
This estimated range covers typical 14–26 kW Kohler or Generac installations, including the generator, automatic transfer switch, pad, standard electrical installation, and gas-line connection.
Pricing includes required permits, plans and engineering, associated fees, and utility service-drop work included in your project scope.
Your price depends on generator size, placement, and the electrical and fuel connections required. Fuel tanks, gas-line costs above the allowance, major electrical modifications, and extensive trenching or other site work may bring the total above this range.
